A Visit to Door County: Bridgeport Waterfront Resort and Bluefront Cafe, Sturgeon Bay, WI

On to Amsterdam soon, but first let me share with you a visit or two closer to home.

My favorite person in the world and I spent a couple of days in Door County, Wisconsin recently.

Husband Mark took Thursday and Friday off of work. We left home Thursday morning and drove up to Sturgeon Bay, WI. The weather was perfect--sunny and mid-70’s and we listened to a few podcasts on the way.

We arrived at the Bridgeport Waterfront Resort and our room was ready for an early check-in. The atmosphere is pleasant and homey, and though we just paid for a basic room (least expensive), not a waterfront one, we were surprised to discover we had a beautiful partial-water view.

Bridgeport Waterfront Resort, Sturgeon Bay, WI ranks high on tripadvisor.com

My friend A..... will want to see the bathroom

Clean and tidy

Included a refrigerator, dishes, two closets and a large dresser

An added plus was the peaceful balcony with table and chairs.

For lunch we drove to a nearby restaurant we’d noticed on our way to the resort. Bluefront Café turned out to be the perfect lunch spot. We enjoyed a simple sandwich with fruit, pleasant service from waitress Judy, and the artwork on the walls fit the atmosphere perfectly. Much of the art was by Tim Nyberg: http://g42art.com/

The restaurant's entrance. We loved the food, the ambience, and our waitress, Judy.
Artwork by Rick Risch (Sturgeon Bay) based on "Luncheon of the Boating Party" by Renoir

Loved this piece on the wall by Leonard Nagler (Appleton)

Ahhh, Door County! I love that place and so does my favorite person! One of our friends recently was talking about Maine. Another friend commented,'Say, isn't Maine like Door County?' :)

We may need to stop at that cafe! We'll tell them Lori sent us.

You friend A... must be gratified to see the spanking clean restroom!

Prude--You are too funny. I'm sure A...is quite gratified.

Door County is much like Maine, now that you mention it, but a much more do-able drive for Midwesterners on a budget.

Door County--a nice room, good food, good service by Judy, and hubby-time. I love traveling vicariously!

...spoken by one whose typical travel is to Lodi to visit Susie the Duck!

...but who dares to dream of a real, not virtual, trip to the UK :)

Robin--I've driven through Lodi, WI, but never have visited Susie the Duck. Maybe I'll need to schedule a trip there before the snow flies, since she's so close. Is Susie worth the drive?

I dream of a trip to the UK for you, too.

I will be going to DC with my favorite person in October. Maybe we will go by or even stop at THE cafe. I hope our bathrooms are equally spanking clean.

Ah, Fuef. This is how nicknames are born. And Fuef is quite tempting:-).

Where will you stay in Oct.? Egg Harbor? Fish Creek?
